Hey Debbie Clarke, if you are near Mill Valley, try going to Village Music. You could probably even call and see if they have any Clover albums. The owner, John Goddard, knows EVERYTHING and actually, I have seen Clover albums in there many times - 45s, too.

Just great reading to see the past concerts & who they played with. Always amazes me. I have been trying to find some ol' Clover albums to purchase but was out of luck. Went even to the San Francisco Music Store Amoeba & either I didnt go into right section or they didnt have it but they did have almost everything. Can you tell me where to purchase. I already went to E-Bay and they didnt have it. Thank you. Would be interested in any of their albums. Are there any in CD form? Sincerely Debbie Clark

hey guys, i just wanted to drop you a line and let you know that i remember clover playing at the charles van damme ferryboat on gate 5 road in the winter of 1968. I was living in the pilot house of the CVD at the time. clover was the first time i had ever heard country and western and swing music that sounded good to me. "a whole lot more religion, a lot less rock and roll" for instance, such a break after the old tammy wynette my dad listened to. anyway i'm glad you are all alive and well. hats off to huey lewis too.

still stuck in the 60s.

Clover was a fun band. So was the Flying Circus. I remember 1090 Page St. and Muir Beach and the Tiny Hearing Aid Company/Freedom Highway gigs. I've been thinking about the old days quite a bit, ever since I heard about Bob. Hang in there, Michelle and Brian. It gets better and the pain goes away.

Hi everybody,
just want to make clear that the messages on this guest book are normaly not censored. Nevertheless I delete stuff which is simply off-topic. Plus, some messages are private but that's a decision people make when they post to this guest book.

During the last few days people try to abuse this guestbook for their personal fights and disgrace themselves and others. This thing is not going to happen on this site. Those people who have a problem with this decision should email me and explain what they try to achieve or build their own web site.

Best,

Stephan

Thanks so much, Stephan, for your kind words about Bob. We had our ups and downs but always loved each other and he gave me the most precious gift anyone can give -- his son. Brian is grieving for his dad right now -- he hadn't seen him for a couple of years and they spoke infrequently -- Bob's demons were just too powerful. I hope he has found the peace he always wanted. We will miss him for the rest of our lives.

After reading a few of these, I have to second all opinions about releasing the LPs on CD.

I saw Clover at the University of Houston sometime in '69, I think. "Wade In The Water", live, sold me on the band.

I ran out and bought the first LP. Took it with me when I moved to Colorado, and through the years lost it somehow. I have searched for the LP used, to no avail. I would LOVE to see at least the first two LPs out on CD.

I had found this site, then lost it when my hard drive crashed, and luckily found it again.

I'll keep checking back to someday, hopefully, see that the music becomes available again on CD.

Thanks to whoever thought to assemble all this info

Hi. I was surprised and very pleased to find your website last night, by doing a Google search.

I'm a Bay Area artist. When I was 10 I lived in Berkeley. This was summer of '69. Every sunday I used to walk up to Provo Park to hear the free concerts given for a wild and crazy crowd by Clover, the Flying Circus, and Purple Earthquake. Sometimes I'd sit right on top of one of the amps, or right in front of one (probably couldn't do that now). It gave me a lot of happiness. So if you're still in contact with band members, I hope you'll let them know I'd like to thank them for the music and great memories.

I'll look for them in record stores, especially if there's CD out.

Peace,

Kevin

Hello! The "Clover InfoPage" was one of the very first websites I encontered after becoming internet-active back in '98. I've made it a point to check in now and then to see what might be new... so I was quite pleased to see all the newly added graphics, contributions, etc. (it's been over a year).

I don't know if I can call myself a 'Clover Fan' to the same degree as some of the others who've posted messages here (I'm stunned... and pleased... to see what a large international fan base these guys have), but I will say this... twenty-two years ago, I heard "Keep on Trying" & was so smitten with it that I immediately set out to find whatever material by this band that I possibly could (odd, considering at the time I was a heavy-duty 'prog-ster' ala King Crimson, VDGG, et al). In 1980, of course, this meant plowing through a seemingly endless number of used record shops (since I live in what can be considered Greater-Los Angeles, I had a lot of to choose from). My efforts yielded only a copy of "Love on the Wire", which is a great album but I was hoping that I'd be able to find more of their catalogue.

I'm not exactly a HL&tN fan, though being a 39 year old American, I have to say that they were pretty much unavoidable during my young adulthood, & knowing that Lewis was their creative force gives them a little more legitimacy in my book.

Again, great job on the site!

At last I found SOMETHING about Clover.

The most people I ask here don't know the band. I'm very glad that now I know more about the group. And unfortunately I only have 1 LP (Unavailable) of the band. I would like to have all their records on CD. It would be nice to know how to order them.

Bye for now.

The band use to live next to us. They were cool but the music was so loud my Mom always called the cops on them. Mr. Lewis was always coming over and saying I'm sorry. He gave me a signed album. To bad I did not keep it.

Well, blimey, there IS a site devoted to one of the slickest rock bands of all time.

I was a massive Thin Lizzy fan and caught Clover supporting Lizzy at the famous Rainbow venue in London. I was hooked on those intricate guitar riffs and harmonies.

Unfortunately it took me a very long time to get hold of their album. Every record shop I went to said it had to be ordered specially, and when I asked them to get it for me, they all said it was "Unavailable". It took ages before one clued up shop owner finally twigged "Oh, that's the title of the album". Still have that album today, it's the most played item in my car - nothing better for racing up the highway late at night!

Great work on the site!

Hello John McFee and friends.

Blessed many times by seeing you play (even in Tiny Hearing Aid Company)as a teen in Marin. You've been an inspiration all my life! Playing now with your special friend Kevin Haapala in my "Poetry Band" in Sonoma County. Every now and then a sound of yours visits us and we're inspired all over again. "Clover" ain't nostalgia, it's simply timeless melody for the charmed ear.

We still Love our Big Brothers and Sisters in the Show!

A friend of mine came back from London in '78 with two albums by Clover. I immediately fancied the band for its exceptionally warm sound, highly developed harmonies and catching melodies. Just dropped in on your site, lotsa good stuff there. Got into Clover via Dark Star Magazine in the late 70's. Lets hope someone out there put the entire back catalog out soon. If they can do it for the Plimsouls why not Clover?

Cryin Tears for a Love lost too quickly.

Many Moons ago in the Grate town of Novato California,we children of the Flowers enjoyed Music that could only have come from the San Francisco Bay Area and the culture of the late sixties. In a local establishment, the Church of Ignacio,we spun many many tripful nights to the sounds of the likes of;Clover,Stoneground,Early Morning Fog,Sopwith Camel and many more.

Mr. Wizard, please take us back to the days of Sunshine and Sweet Sweet Wine.

Peace & Happy Trails To You,

Great site, S!

'sfunny, I would swear I signed in on this guestbook a year or two back, but I can't find it now. Maybe I made it private.

Anyhow, put me down as another former Clover equipment-lugger (I wouldn't say 'roadie' as I got to sleep in my own bed every night). 1971-'72? Came to it through my big brother Peter, who left Mill Valley for points north. I tried never to miss a Clover show before or after working for them, but getting in free to the big ones was excellent.

Put me down also as another who misses the shows. There were oh so many, and so much interesting music. I miss 60's Marin. But what's the point of pining for the glory days? How many times can a body kick himself for not going to see Hendrix play for free in Golden Gate Park?

What I REALLY want to know is why does Elvis Costello dis Clover by saying the Attractions and the Attractions alone (OK, maybe he gives McFee some credit, I can't remember) backed him up on 'My Aim Is True'?

I have a lot of respect for the guy as a musician and songwriter, but geeze!

Thanks for the site and the memories . . .

Hi Ernie and Donna, and Alex . . . Alex, did you see the post from Hickman looking for McFee?

'bye all!

ben

Still got my 'Clover' (the first one, on Fantasy Records), 'Fourty Niner,' and 'Clover' (the Mercury one recorded in England) records. And somewhere, my Flying Circus 45!

Anyone know of plans for Tam High '72 30-year reunion?

Great job on the site. As a musician and a songwriter, I've always been influenced by Bay Area music, especially my favorite bands THE NEWS and TOWER OF POWER. Hopefully, this site will get more people turned on to a very underrated band, CLOVER!!! Thanks for a great job. Love to hear from you sometime.

I was jazzed to see this site! I was a roadie for Clover from May 31, 1977 to Dec 30, 1977. The next to the last tour. If it wasn't for them I wouldn't have met my wife of 23 years. We were in London getting ready to tour with Graham Parker and the Rumour and I fell in love with Roz who worked as a receptionist at our hotel. I had a fantastic 7 months on the road with these guys. We almost lost McFee out the back of the band car ( he was laughing so hard ) when I tore the roof off of our truck in Boston. (It was Huey's cousins fault! Really!).The Incident

As a long time admirer of Clover, I would dearly love to get hold of some more Clover material. I saw them live in England four times and was blown away by their musicianship and strong harmonies. I was lucky enough to meet the band through a chance encounter on a train with Mmicky Shine, (the interview was great and very revealing).

Unfortunately I only managed to obtain vinyl copies of "Unavailable" and "Love on the Wire". Can anyone help with supplying some of their other material. "CLOVER", "FOURTY NINER", "THE BEST OF THE FANTASY YEARS" etc. - Anything really (recorded CD, MD, cassette, vinyl). I've tried many sources but to no avail.

Any help or advice as to where I could possible get hold of such material (living in England) would be great. You can e-mail me at the above address.

Keep up the good work

Cheers, Graham.

Hi, I just found this whilst searching for links to 'Zigzag' magazine (of which I have a few). I was fortunate enough to see Clover in the 1970's.

The first time was at the Roundhouse in Chalk Farm, London.

I remember the band doing a wonderful accapella version of 'Chain Gang'. They just blew me away with their harmonies and musicianship.

I also saw them at Birmingham Odeon supporting Graham Parker/Rumour.

I didn't know they were the support, got in late and and was really disappointed to miss the beginning of their set .

They were an astounding Band. John McFee is one of my many heros.

Great to see the pictures from the Lion's Share. I atended numerous shows there from 1972-74 and can attest to each of the band members' respective musical talents. For guys in their early 20's, Clover had a great sense of "the groove" and a wonderfully unpretentious sense of humor (ie: "Chicken Funk" and "Hot Pants"). Anyone remember Sean and Huey doing the funky little synchronized dance routine?... They added much to my varied musical tastes and interests in Funk, R&B, (ie: I'm a big Tower of Power fan here), Symphonic/Classical, Irish Ballads (I certainly can't forget McFee's pedal steel on "Danny Boy" which could bring tears to your eyes), Hillbilly Swing, etc.

My best regards to all (especially to Sean) and of course, John McFee who I have not seen since his garage sale in Mill Valley (at that funky old duxplex across from Mill Valley Lumber Co.), just before his very charming wife and he were expecting their first child. This was probably about 1977. John, if you are reading this, please drop a message. Thanks again, Tom@marinselect.com

Huey Lewis & Company recently played at the Stanislaus County fair. Unfortunately I did not make it to the concert, but a friend did. I asked her to please get me a signed photo or memerobilia from Huey Lewis. I was very disappointed to find out that directly after the show the band literally jetted out of there leaving the fans very dissappointed and angry. My friend also told me that he refused to sign autographs or allow photos. Is this anyway to treat your fans? On the other hand Alabama played at the fair and was very grateful to all the peoplem, signing autographs, taking photos, etc...I think I will switch to Country, They are a freindlier sort.

Sincerely saddened

I was first introduced to Clover in the early 80's quite by accident.I was looking around an old record store for some Heuy stuff.Instead i was persueded to hand over £6 for a second hand copy of UNAVAILABLE.I took it home, played it and the rest as they say is history.I remember at the time being overwhelmed by Alex Calls vocals,so much so that after some time i managed to track down a copy of his first solo album(what a peach). So many bands these days are reforming.Wouldn't it be fab if all the ex band members could reform clover. I for one would certainley make the trip across the Atlantic.Hell,i think i'd even swim!

I know John McFee from High School when he went to Mendanhall with my girlfriend Beth Gluyas. Used to give him a ride home in my little red renault. He would doodle on the guitar and it sounded great. We later were in a band together for a very short time with a mutual friend, david lyall. We had a job at Santiago High School, but when we got there to set up the Prinicpal, Don Walsh, would not let us set up because we had long hair.

I am a songwriter and would like to get some to John for his input. Is there anyway that you can contact him and give him my email?

i sure wish i had all their records but the northridge quake took that and so much more away from me........does anyone have any of their music for sale or trade? thanks for putting this all together!!

Amazed to come across a Clover homepage. Well done for providing one.

I first saw Clover supporting Thin Lizzy (who are my all time no 1 band) and they really impressed me, so much so that I saw them a couple of times more when they were in the area (once suporting Graham Parker, once supporting Lynyrd Skynyrd) and also also at gig they played in Sheffield where the electrics blew and the band left Micky Shine on stage to play out a 5-7 minute drum solo until the power came back on! Micky was a great drummer - does anyone have any information on what he went on to do?

I would dearly love to get hold of the 2 early Clover albums (I have Unavailable + Love on the Wire) and or good quality live recordings if anyone can help me.

Later on I tried to see Huey with the News at Manchester but was unable to gain entry due to all the tickets having been sold. Ah the price of success!

Well done boys, any chance of a reunion tour of the UK?

really love the songs (esp. back to the future) it's one of my favorite movies. but i decided finally to check it out and see if they had really been more than just 5 or so videos on mtv and a receding fad in music today. thank god i was wrong. i had no idea how far back they went.

how about some east coast shows huey? the hartford meadows, spac (saratoga), pnc bank arts center, (all ampitheatres), smaller clubs, pearl street in northampton, mullen center in amherst (mass), tuxedo junction in danbury connecticut.

I almost saw Clover on my first night in California. The show included Stoneground and the Tubes. By the time Clover was to play there had been too many fights and the CHP shut the place (Pepperland in San Rafael) down. They played maybe a couple of songs. I think that it might have been Huey's first night sitting in with them. Wish I could have heard more then and now.

Drove home listening to Child of the Streets which along with Streets of London are my favorites. Am interested in trading some live shows on tape if you are. (Alex, Southern Pacific). Were you perhaps at the old Waldorf shows? I used to see them at Provo park, Pepperland, and Humbolt County. Saw lots of Alex shows and last saw him in the Bulls Opening for the Sons last year. Contact me through my daughter until I figure out how to use my own email. Thanks.

Clover was the hometown band for those of us who grew up in Mill Valley. Most of the guys went to Tamalpais High School, and we had many wild nights dancing the hours away at Browns Hall, and The Muir Beach Tavern. We knew them originally as the Tiny Hearing Aid Company, and for awhile the band lived out in these old cabins located at Muir Beach, "The Magic Mountains Retirement Community." Back then, the beach was actually private, and I and my high school pals would camp out on the beach for days at a time, living in the dunes, walking back to the old Tavern. It was a great time, backed by a great band! We were all glad to see the success of these guys as the years rolled on, and we will always remember the great songs like Santa Fe, Shotgun, and of course, the wild, wild dance tune, Chicken Butt! A Clover reunion would be great!!!

I suppose most Clover fans are really big Huey Lewis & the News Fans. I like HLN, but I couldn't be called a "diehard." Rather, my introduction to Clover came about through Chet Gregg, who signed this guest book earlier. Chet is a really big Huey fan, and back in college, we were at a record show when he found used copies of "Love on the Wire" and "Unavailable" (actually, it was the American version, simply called "Clover"). Needless to say, I think that Clover is a truly brilliant band, and I thoroughly enjoy all their albums. When Chet called me one day from Boston to tell me there was finally a Clover Homepage, it was a great day. Congratulations to Stephan for putting such a fine tribute together, and I'd like to thank him for allowing me to participate and contribute lyric transcriptions. Long live Clover!

Ich schreib' auf deutsch, mir egal. Warum muß man immer alles so amerikanisieren, Stephan? Ich bin Deutscher, bin nicht gerade stolz darauf, aber ich stehe dazu. Punkt. Wie Huey sagen würde: 'I am American and I am extremely proud of it!!!" Der Mann weiß, was er will. Und ich will jetzt deutsch reden. Tolle Infopage hast Du da, vor allem das erste Photo auf der Hauptseite gefällt mir außerordentlich. Wenn Du das mal schon für die Story gehabt hättest. super Aufnahme. Wo hast Du die her?

Jut' jemacht, min Jung'!!!
